INDI FUND

InTrust Global Investments is the creator of the INDI Fund, the first private equity model that aims on investing in collaboration with indigenous communities in renewable energy, agribusiness and infrastructure projects in Latin America. The INDI Fund’s goal is to achieve a triple bottom line of superior financial returns, along with a positive social and environmental impact.

Once launched, the INDI Fund will be the first private equity model that gives local communities a shareholding in projects, in exchange for the contribution of their lands or natural resources. This allows community members – who are usually among the poorest populations in Latin America – to share in the financial benefits of the investment and have a say in the decision-making and operation of the projects, in addition to the INDI Fund, which is InTrust’s main focus.

BOTH INTRUST AND THE INDI FUND PUT PARTNERSHIPS INTO PRACTICE:

Carefully monitoring projects, including site visits, to ensure that the local community will welcome the potential project.

Avoid dispossession of indigenous peoples’ lands.

Allow the community to be involved in negotiations on critical issues.

Create a project management model that is specific to the needs of each of the communities, and develop skills for stakeholders to ensure that the model has been successfully implemented.

Require that a community representative serves on the board on each project, that he or she is given full access to all available information about the project, and that their vote is required prior to the sale of the project or change of operator.

Recruitment of indigenous and community members as a large proportion of the workers involved in the project, and if possible, most of them.

Take use of available resources, such as electricity, to help the community.

COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION

COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION

We recognize that the development of energy, agribusiness and infrastructure projects is a delicate process for local residents, so we commit to engaging community members in a fair and open manner at the earliest stage of planning.

Communities also benefit from the local economic growth that projects bring.

The projects will generate economic benefits for the community through our unique equitable sharing model.

The projects will also create local jobs, for which the Fund will provide training to the members of the local community.

Economic growth and development will reduce the economic need for migration, which in turn protects the indigenous culture and custom of the community.
