In partnership with the Center for Health and the Global Environment at the T.H. Chan Harvard School of Public Health, InTrust Global Investments has trained over 250 promising professors from Mexico’s public universities to develop renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in their communities.
InTrust launched this innovative program to help with the human resources challenge that limits the growth of the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector in Mexico’s rural areas.
Through training, we seek to expand the currently limited pool of project developers and advisors who have 1) local insight; 2) understanding of global capital markets; and 3) knowledge of how to respect local communities.
The larger the pool of qualified individuals, the greater the investment opportunities for our clients and opportunities for rural areas.
Why partnering with Academia?
Professors are a powerful but underutilized resource in project development.
Many have the passion, technical expertise, and trust within the community, but do not know how to secure capital nor manage large-scale projects.
When equipped with the leadership, business, finance, and community-relations skills, Mexican professors can pave the way to the country’s clean energy future.
In serving as advisors to investors and communities, or as the leaders for the project, they will expand the pipeline of profitable clean-energy projects that are socially responsible.
How will communities benefit?
We are creating a cadre of project developers and advisors who have a unique understanding of indigenous and rural populations.
Communities will then have a stronger voice in the development of renewable energy projects.
Throughout the course, Universities and Technological Institutes played a larger role in connecting project ideas with technical expertise, bridging communities and external project sponsors, and ultimately attracting socially-responsible investors to otherwise difficult-to-access markets.
